Aetna's Internal Audit Department (IAD) serves the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors and assists management in achieving Aetna's goals by conducting independent and objective assurance and consulting activities.

As an audit professional, you will identify ways to improve the Company's control environment, cost-saving measures and productivity. You will perform comprehensive, independent evaluations of operating areas by assessing risks, defining the scope of the audits to be performed, testing activities, resolving issues and providing detailed control evaluations. You will assist IAD's diverse and knowledgeable team as they provide value to Aetna's senior management with their objective, broad-based view of the Company's business operations.

Internal Audit Professional Development
IAD helps develop highly qualified and motivated audit professionals with diverse backgrounds for their future at Aetna. Our professional development initiatives include:

  • Providing a formalized training curriculum that offers specific training courses based on the level and work experience of the auditor. The structure of the curriculum provides the necessary training to perform the assigned tasks within the guidelines established by the AICPA and the IIA. The IAD training program meets the continuing education requirements established by the State of Connecticut - Board of Accountancy.
  • Providing constructive feedback through performance evaluations and counseling sessions during and after significant assignments.
  • Defining a career path whereby audit professionals realize their skills and talents and understand how these capabilities can transfer to other areas or positions within the Company.

What's Required
A variety of opportunities exist, each with a specific and often unique set of requirements. In general, a bachelor's degree in accounting, internal audit, business administration, finance, information technology, health care management or a related field is desired. In addition, the positions require strong analytical, communication, leadership, problem-solving and interpersonal skills. Management positions require relevant work experience for consideration.
