With the adoption of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act in March 2010, the nation achieved an historic milestone in expanding health care access to millions more Americans. A history of developing workable solutions
Aetna has worked with state and federal leaders for years to develop a collaborative approach to making the health care system work better.

  • We are fully engaged in helping to make health care reform both workable and sustainable, and we played a key role in offering the benefits of our insights and expertise during the health care reform process in 2009 and 2010.
  • In 2008, we played a key role in helping to pass mental-health parity legislation.
  • In 2007, we introduced our own comprehensive proposal for transforming the health care system.
  • In 2005, we became the first national health care company to advocate an individual coverage requirement to help address the problem of the uninsured.
