End of Life Care

Aetna Compassionate Care SM Program

How the Program Works

When facing the advanced stages of an illness, it’s comforting to know you can turn to people who care.

The Aetna Compassionate Care Program is here to help you and your family through this challenging time with compassion, care and support.

As an Aetna member, you have access to these services and resources at no additional charge. These are included with your medical benefits:

  • Nurses who are specially trained to coordinate care, help you manage your benefits, identify helpful resources and more
  • Hospice care support and coordination with curative treatment programs*
  • A website that can give you information about living wills, tips for discussing care and treatment options with loved ones, and more

* Call the phone number on your ID card to discuss the details of your benefits plan.

Getting the support you need

There is no need to feel isolated when a serious illness strikes your family. Reaching out for support is important to help you cope with the physical and emotional challenges ahead. Start by:

  • Calling Aetna Member Services. Ask to speak to a nurse case manager. Read about the role of a nurse case manager.
  • Educating yourself about living wills, advanced directives, power of attorney, care decisions and more. You’ll find this information right on this website, including a glossary of terms you should know.
  • Talking with loved ones, clergy, community-based groups and others. Learn how to get the conversation started and where to go for additional help.
