Health Expense Funds

Control how you save and spend your health care dollars

These options are all about putting you in control. Some can help you pay for certain eligible medical and health costs. Others cover things like dependent care. Your employer may offer one or all of the following:

Health Savings Account (HSA)

  • Put in money from your paycheck before taxes.
  • Add  money on your own and reduce your taxable income.
  • Use the money to pay for covered services before your health plan begins to pay (deductible).
  • Put money away for future expenses.
  • Earn tax-free interest.
  • Roll over the money in your account from year to year and let it grow.
  • You own the account, even if you change jobs.

Watch our HSA video.

Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA)

  • Only your employer can contribute to this fund.
  • Use the fund to pay for covered services before your health plan begins to pay.
  • Leftover dollars may be carried over from year-to-year.

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)

  • Put in money from your paycheck before taxes and save.
  • Use the money to pay for covered health care and dependent care expenses.
  • Pay for eligible parking and transit expenses for getting to work.
  • Leftover money is lost if you don't use it by the end of the plan year.
